TES Science and Environment Club Oct 12, 2010

Dear students

We are glad to inform you that TES intends to place its resources and its teacher support in your service so that you may enjoy extracurricular activities, participate in science fairs within the field of science, technology, and the environment,, and satisfy your curiosity and interests, through TES Science and Environment Club.

Purpose of the club

  • To engage the interest of our students in science.
  • To enhance students’ passion for protection of nature in Lebanon.
  • To introduce students to the scientific method.
  • To encourage students to understand science, and possibly choose science and technology in their future careers.
  • To transfer the scientific, and logical thinking to our society.
  • To encourage problem solving skills and creativity.
  • To engender a feeling of passion, love and belonging to our beautiful country.

Application for Membership

Membership in TES Science and Environment Club entitles a student to participate in science fairs, field trips, involvement in preparing for lectures, or presentations by guest speakers, visiting natural reserves for the purpose of discovery, and for sharing in natural reserve activities like collecting seeds and planting seedlings, and trees, in addition to the active design of projects that foster environmental awareness in the community of Tripoli and North Lebanon.

Please fill in the application on the second page and return it before the deadline of Monday, Oct 18, 2010 so your membership is confirmed as soon as possible.

Our science fair preparation

TES
GOALS OF THE SCIENCE FAIR 2009-2010

Our goals in this science fair:
• To engage the interest of our students in science.
• To introduce them to the scientific method.
• To encourage them to understand science and possibly choose science and technology in their future careers.
• To transfer the scientific, and logical thinking to our society.
• To encourage problem solving skills and creativity.

Please remember that “a student’s success will not be measured by ribbons, trophies, or certificates only. Success is measured by learning, and understanding more about science, and how scientists work”

THE PROJECT INCLUDES
• Display unit: To show the graphs, charts, photographs, and the printed information.
• Exhibit materials: Items collected, apparatus, or experiment.
• Written report: To summarize all the information collected, or learned. It is between 5 and 30 pages. It includes the following:
1. Title page
2. Statement of purpose
3. Hypothesis in case of an experiment is chosen. (An intelligent guess about what will occur).
4. Research: All the collected information
5. Materials.
6. Procedure or steps followed.
7. Observations and results.
8. Conclusion: To explain briefly why things happened as using the word “because”.
9. Bibliography: To list the printed materials and internet sites from which the information was taken.
10. Acknowledgements: To thank all those who, helped, and encouraged the development of the project like mom, dad, experts, and teacher…. ……..

Note: There is no limit to creativity and imagination.
